2010 Radford Eden Valley Bio-Dynamically Grown Riesling

ViNIFICATION

The grapes are all handpicked into 350kg bins - guaranteeing the cleanest and purest free run juice.   The pressings and free run are kept separate, and wild fermented in old French hogsheads.   The free run juice is cold settled for 4 - 7 days, racked from solids and blended and fermented at 12 - 14 degrees C for 3 - 4 weeks. This wine was then racked from heavy lees and left on light lees for 8 ½ months.

Winemaker's Comments

This was one of those lovely projects that came to fruition with fantastic results.  After the great feedback we received with the 2009 BD Riesling, I was determined to pick at least one block of Riesling according to the bio-dynamic astral calendar again this year.  The result is this Bio-Dynamically Grown Riesling – a wine with a compelling sense of self and tremendous fruit purity. Made exclusively with fruit hand-picked from our 80 year-old block, this wine is without question the purest expression of Riesling we’ve seen off our property.  Sealed under the vino-lok glass stopper - this will ensure the wine’s characters - deliciously delicate, flinty, powdery talc and bone dry minerality – remain preserved.
